Emergency Info

At John Muir Elementary School student safety is our number one priority. Throughout the school year your student(s) will participate in several safety drills to prepare them in the event of a real emergency. These drills are scheduled in accordance with state and district guidelines. All schools in LWSD are required to have 6 fire drills (scheduled at various days/times), a district wide earthquake drill, 2 lockdown drills, and a shelter-in-place drill. If you ever have a question or concern about the safety of your child while at John Muir, please do not hesitate to contact us. More detailed information to come.

Two Hours Late Start on Bad Weather Days

As it gets colder and rainier, it’s time to start thinking about what happens on stormy days. In the past, if there was a late start, secondary schools would start one hour late and elementary schools one and a half hours late. Now all schools will start two hours late in the event of a late start. This change will allow more time for the weather and roads to clear and provide a consistent, easy to understand message for parents.

Also the district Web site at http://www.lwsd.org has an alert system that will reveal a bright red square with information whenever you go to the home page during an emergency. The alert will allow the district to provide more complete information on the home page and will immediately draw attention to itself. The decision to start late or to close is made around 5 a.m., and posted by 5:30 a.m. A recording is also left on the main district telephone number, 425-936-1200.
